ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Berachah Bible Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Christ at home and abroad.  We want to be a church that gathers together for worship and biblical instruction, grows together by connecting God’s truth to life in the context of close relationships, and goes together with the gospel to our community and around the world.

“. . . they assembled in the Valley of Berachah, where they praised the Lord . . .” (2 Chronicles 20:26)

OUR HISTORY

Berachah Bible Church began as a Bible Study in the fall of 1970. One of the contributing factors was the refusal of Bible believing churches in the Atlanta area to receive African Americans into their congregations. The founding pastor, Howard Dial, was teaching at Carver Bible College to train African Americans for ministry. It was his vision to establish a church where Bible exposition governed the life of the congregation and challenged the deficiencies of the culture.

OUR VISION

To be a Christ-centered, Bible-rooted, Spirit-led, gospel-proclaiming, disciple-making, life-sharing, culturally-diverse, unified, actively growing fellowship of disciples of Jesus Christ from across the South Metro Atlanta area that gathers together for worship, grows together through discipleship, and goes together with the gospel to our community and the world.

LEADERSHIP

Justin Culbertson, Senior Pastor

Justin was born and raised outside of Dallas, Texas. He married Brook in 1997 while they were both students at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. After completing a degree in Theology, Justin enrolled at The Master’s Seminary where he graduated in 2002 (M.Div.). It was then that God opened the door for him to move to Georgia and begin serving on the pastoral staff at Berachah. He became the senior pastor in 2012 following Dr. Dial’s retirement. Justin and Brook have 4 children: Cali, Carson, Katie, and Kara. Other interests include Texas BBQ, golf, and leaf-blowing.

Dr. Howard E. Dial, Pastor Emeritus

Howard E. Dial grew up in the Atlanta area. He received his B.A. in Biblical Education from Columbia Bible College in 1963, his M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, Indiana. Prior to coming to Berachah, Howard pastored the McNeely Memorial Church in Lewisburg, Indiana and served as the Academic Dean at Carver Bible Institute and College. He has studied at the Institute of Holy Land Studies in Jerusalem and has received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon. Our pastor and his wife, Beth, live in the Fayetteville area and have 2 grown children, Miriam and Eric, and 6 grandchildren.

Frank Pass, Associate Pastor (Christian Education)

Frank grew up in Fayetteville, Georgia. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he worked as an engineer for Georgia Power Company for 12 years. He left Georgia Power in 1996 to study at the Master's Seminary, where he completed a Master of Theology degree in New Testament. He taught for 5 years at Novosibirsk Biblical Theological Seminary in Novosibirsk, Siberia. He now serves as the director of Berachah Bible Institute, oversees the church library and adult Sunday School, and leads the World Missions Team. He also serves part time with The Master’s Academy International (www.tmai.org). Frank has 4 children and 2 grandchildren. In October 2011, Frank’s first wife, Carol, went to be with the Lord after a difficult bout with pancreatic cancer. In the Lord’s good providence, Frank met Beverly Smyly in August 2013.  After a two year courtship, they were married on July 11, 2015.

Eric Flintoff, Associate Pastor (Student Ministries & Discipleship)

Eric was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia and was a pastor’s kid for most of his life.  He attended Columbia International University and graduated in 2001 with a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries.  He married his wife Amanda that same year. OUR COVENANT

Having been led by the Holy Spirit to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on profession of our faith in Him, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and enabled by the Spirit to walk in righteousness; we most solemnly and joyfully affirm our covenant with one another as members of the local church called Berachah Bible Church, part of the one body of Christ:

1. We will actively pursue sanctification and holiness through our obedience to the Scriptures and our Lord Jesus Christ through faithful Bible reading and study; prayer; personal, family and corporate worship; ministry to others; and witnessing to the lost;

2. We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but will faithfully participate in our church's worship, preaching, teaching, and prayers services;

3. We will use our talents and gifts for the service and edification of the body and be faithfully engaged in our church's ministries, humbly submitting to its leadership in obedience to Scripture;

4. We will walk together in humility and unity, encouraging, exhorting, admonishing, and serving one another in the spirit of brotherly love; we will remember one another in our prayers; we will aid each other in sickness and distress;

5. We will cultivate grace, truth, and forbearance in our speech, promote unity and be peacemakers with those in the body; be slow to take offense, be quick to confess sins and ask forgiveness; and always be ready for reconciliation, remembering our Savior's instructions to secure it without delay;

6. We will strive for the advancement of the Lord's church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines, to give it sacred preeminence over all institutions of human origin;

7. We will give cheerfully and faithfully for the support of our church, the expenses of its ministry, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations;

8. We will seek to live carefully and walk circumspectly in the world, affirming what is good and deserving of honor, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts; maintaining a good testimony before the world; to be just and righteous in our thoughts and actions; to exercise faithfulness in our relationships and commitments; to protect the innocent and those who are persecuted for Christ's sake; and to abstain from evil and all appearance of evil.

This we covenant for the eternal glory of God the Father, Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

OUR NAME

Berachah.  The word “Berachah” means blessing. This name was given to a valley in Israel in celebration of a great victory God had given His people. It was in that place that the Lord God did wonderful things to provide for all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem (II Chronicles 20:26). It is our desire, as those blessed by God, to be a blessing to this community by making our great God known in word and in deeds.

Bible.  We want to be a church that is aligned with the Bible, God’s living and active Word. We are a non-denominational church that emphasizes the importance of having the Bible as our foundation and guide in all things.

Church.  The local church is a gathering of those who’ve been called out of darkness into light (1 Peter 2:9).  The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone.  Christ places His redeemed people in the church to learn together, grow together, serve together, and worship together.
